Multibeam Echo Sounder of Norwegian producer NORBIT Subsea

Advanced equipment purchased under The Project Core

Department of Hydrography and Oceanography of Institute of Hydrometeorology and Seismology (IHMS) has obtained new advanced equipment for performing hydrographic activities.

It is the newest Multibeam Echo Sounder of Norwegian producer NORBIT Subsea. The cost of this equipment was 137,250.00 euro. Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES) is purchased under the project
CoRE and it will be used for the implementation of the project activities. MBES will significantly improve capabilities of Montenegrin hydrographic service. The use of this modern equipment is irreplaceable in hydrology, bathymetry, recording of maritime installations, search of sunken objects, as well as in the collection of data related to protection of environment. Purchased MBES meets all requirements of International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) for collection of bathymetric data. MBES produce precise three-dimensional image of undersea and can be used to a
depth of 500 meters, depending on the temperature and other parameters of seawater. Therefore, this system is paired with a probe for measuring the velocity of sound through the water, as
well as the precise Global Positioning System, which produces highly reliable and accurate data for creating nautical charts. For the staff of Department of Hydrography and Oceanography of IHMS 14 day training has been organized. The training is divided into two parts, practical work with MBES and then setup of software for data processing. The training started on 6 October and it will last until 19 October 2016.
